The reality behind the idea of net-zero Carbon emission

The reality behind the idea of net-zero Carbon emission

Carbon and its different compounds are part and parcel of our environment. Sometimes, Carbon is good. Other times, Carbon is the villain. When combined with oxygen, Carbon forms two deadly compounds: carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide. Both of the compounds are the major risks for the deterioration of our environment and ecosystem.

Major changes these Carbon compounds are bringing in our surroundings involve changing seasons, climate, ecosystem, and water supplies. So the Earth needs zero carbon emission to heal back to its real beauty. The real deal behind the idea of net-zero carbon emission is the warming of the climate. Carbon dioxide, along with some minor contributions of other gases, is called Greenhouse Gases, producing the greenhouse effect.

This means heating the environment by making insulation and trapping the heat in the environment. Greenhouse gas is the main driver of the change in the weather. CO2 ends up with the warming of the climate and increasing the atmosphere’s temperature. Carbon dioxide not only increases temperature but also traps UV radiation. A lifetime of methane(CH4) in the atmosphere is 12 years and traps more infrared traditions than CO2. Hence it becomes difficult to eliminate these gases from the air.

Technologies to achieve this goal

Some major changes are required to remove greenhouse gases from the climate. We are bringing more technologies into life to make your lives easy by day. They may bring ease to our routines, but most of them need fuel to work. And this fuel, after being used, changes to a raw product. Most technologies, like refrigerators, automobiles, and air conditioners, emit carbon and carbon compounds that are editing more and more to the greenhouse effect. We need to cut down our utilization of these gadgets to prevent our environment from the harmful effects of Carbon. Following feasible strategies can be applied to get net-zero emissions.

Usage of pieces of equipment and vehicles powered by electricity instead of fossil fuels

We can reduce carbon dioxide from the climate by using vehicles empowered by electricity. Vehicles are one of the biggest sources of Carbon in the environment. The engine’s combustion of fuel leaves out carbon dioxide back into the air. This idea of fuel can be replaced by electricity and solar energy. Hong Kong has launched its very own minibuses that work on electricity.

They used fully charged electric batteries instead of petrol or diesel. And to add more to this wonderful technology, they are also cost-effective. A list of countries has stepped forward to imply bans on different vehicles, ships, and other products. They are in different phases of removing major carbon sources, including gasoline, diesel, and kerosene, using automobiles and technologies. Not to forget, Fossil fuels are a great source of Carbon and lead to increased carbon dioxide emission.

Generate electricity with minimal emission of CO2

Using low carbon emission sources and other sources of energy, including wind, solar, and water, is also helpful in achieving net zero-emission. We should focus on generating green energy and improve the employment rate to attract more workforce towards green energy through workforce management agencies.  Electricity is generated through sources that involve the use of fossil fuels. It is clear now how much trouble fossil fuels are causing. So electricity generation emits a great amount of carbon dioxide(40%), contributing more and more to climate change. Electricity is a prime need. So we cannot cut off electricity. However, we can change the machinery and resources used in this procedure. We can make electricity by using wind turbines that merely wind energy to keep the process alive. Also, the experts are looking for ways to capture carbon dioxide from the environment and convert it into electricity. This eco-friendly and unique technology will be the core of bringing our climate to be normal shortly.

Removal of CO2 from the air

This strategy involves capturing CO2. The most important step in this process is reforestation. Plants use CO2 and help in minimizing the load of Carbon. Plants do so by absorbing CO2 for their respiration through photosynthesis. So they are the major contributors towards maintaining a healthy ecosystem.

Also, if we shift our agricultural methods to those containing more mold, Carbon can be trapped from air into the soil. We can also adapt to more healthy industry equipment that helps to absorb excess Carbon rather than emit it. One of the most practiced methods of removing Carbon from the air is biomass. In some parts of Europe, this technique is carried out through several chemical processes, referred to as direct air capture. All of these Technologies are less costly than offset emissions.

Efficient energy usage

Smart technologies are available that tell us about the energy required during a specific time. They help us to optimize the use of electricity and minimize waste. Companies are being built to keep a check on energy utilization and the provision of eco-friendly alternatives in technologies of daily use. Plans are to build a safer future regarding living conditions on this planet.

It involves less use of fuels and removal of Carbon emitting machinery from industries. Agricultural practices can also be replaced by the ones that are less harmful to the environment and fewer contributors to the greenhouse effect. The most effective energy sources are hydro-thermal, wind, solar and tidal. We can use them to replace fuels and carbon-emitting sources.

They are already in practice. Solar energy, for instance, is now being used for almost all housing activities. Shifting to these sources would be a major step in eliminating the greenhouse effect.

In a nutshell

Our environment demands net-zero Carbon emissions. Our ecosystem is sick of the Carbon that we breathe through our technologies into our surroundings. The greenhouse effect is decreasing the quality of life on Earth. This problem needs an immediate solution. Only through less usage of carbon-emitting technologies and bringing a healthy energy source into use will we be able to overcome this environmental menace.
